The symbol can only be carried on products which have undergone stringent testing in a number of categories. The EU recommends the following steps to ensure environmentally-friendly washing:

• Pre-sort your laundry (by colour, type of fibre, degree of soiling)
• Always wash with a full load without overfilling
• Use the recommmended dosage
• Choose low temperature washes and shorter cycles
